I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.
When I first read about this book, I thought it’ll make for a really interesting read. But alas, I’m disappointed. The basic storyline was okay, but I believe there was a lot more potential in the story. The story feels disjointed and unfinished, as if major chunks of the story is missing.
Saving Sara is about well saving Sara. Sara Brown in a 23 year old successful novelist, famed for her horror series “Mirrors”. She is keeping a secret that no one is aware of and keeps people at arms length, including her sister/best friend Lisa Brown. When Dean Young, a Private Investigator (unbeknownst to Sara), comes waltzing into her life, she runs. That’s what she does best, after all. Through the rest of the story we see how Dean and Sara fall in love and how hard Dean tries to win her trust. Dean wants to gain her trust and help her especially when he finds out someone is physically abusing Sara.
Sara feels like the walls are closing in on her. She has fallen off the deep end and there is no rescue. No matter how much Dean says he can help her, she knows otherwise. But Sara is nothing if not resilient. She bounces back every time, after all she is Dean’s Sunshine.
We finally do find out what secret Sara is keeping close to her chest. But it goes a lot deeper than anyone imagines.
In the backdrop we also have a romance blooming between Sara’s quiet and shy sister Lisa and Dean’s playboy brother Matt. Though both these relationships: Sara-Dean and Lisa-Matt seems rushed. As if major chunks of their relationship has been chucked.
The author also forgets the names of her characters. The protagonist and her sister start as Sara and Lisa Brown, but somewhere towards the middle and end of the story they become Sara and Lisa White(more than once too). Another character who was initially named Tyler becomes Taylor. These mistakes do not really bode well for the author. There are also quiet a few typos.
There is also a lot of scope to improve the writing style of the author. The way the story was written was also one of the major turn-offs for me. It lacks depth and seems rushed. Had the story been a little longer and better written, I would have enjoyed it more.
